2006

In 2006 Bill seemed to have accelerated to a whole new level. He begins with the Senate District 9 Republican Convention where Bill once again served as the Nominations Committee Chairman.

Concerned about the cost to the Delegates of attending a State Convention and wanting a strong attendance, Bill reserved the historic Menger Hotel in San Antonio for the Senate District 9 Delegates, along with some from Senate District 10 and some other areas. The demand was so high that he picked up some more rooms at the Crocket Hotel next door. He was able to book many events at the Menger including a special reception for the elected officials in Senate District 9 and a Breakfast for the Delegates.

At the Convention, Bill served on the Platform Committee. The Platform Committee began their work several days before the actual Convention began. Bill was heavily involved in the process with most of his contribution in the areas of management of the legislature and the legislative process, illegal immigration, and taxes. Meanwhile Jane ran unopposed for her second term on the State Republican Executive Committee. Bill was a strong supporter of Bobby Eberle for Vice-Chairman of the Texas Republican Party. Unfortunately Bobby was not successful. However, the Senate District 9 Delegation had a great time.

Bill had recognized a problem within the legislature in that they had a great deal of difficulty in getting bills related to the platform out of committee. Bill knew that it would take action by the grassroots to accomplish this. He invited members of the SREC, the Platform Committee, and the Republican Legislators to meet in District 93. The legislators listed the planks of the platform they would address and the SREC and Platform Committee members agreed to encourage the grassroots to support the legislation through testimony, phone calls, and e-mails to their legislators and the committees. This proved to be a very successful program during the 2007 legislature session.

The year was not complete and the Governor referred Bill to the Justices of the Texas Supreme Court where he was appointed to the Board of Directors of the State Bar of Texas. Here, he was assigned to the Legislative Committee, Administration Committee, Finance Committee, and the Facilities and Equipment Committees. His assignment to the Legislative Committee had a particularly strong impact.
