How long has it been since a governor visited Mansfield?
Gov. Rick Perry will be making two North Texas appearances early next week. First he'll speak at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery for Memorial Day.
Then on Tuesday, he's scheduled to attend a Mansfield fund raiser for Republican candidate Bill Burch.
Burch is vying to unseat State Rep. Paula Pierson, D-Arlington.
The shindig will be at the Big League Dreams Sports Park. Ticket prices range from $100 for a ticket to the event to $5,000, which will get you two VIP pre-reception tickets, six tickets to the main reception and three "couples photos" with the Governor.
Beyond being a fairly high-profile event for Burch's campaign, Burch said the event may mark the first time a sitting governor has ever appeared at an event in Mansfield.
A city spokesperson asked around and found that no one could recall a gubernatorial visit to the city in the past twenty years.
(Ed. note: If a Politex reader recalls a Texas Governor making a stop in Mansfield, let us know in the comments and we'll check it out and update this post.)
Either way, Burch said the growing city should get more attention from Republicans.
"It’s probably the most Republican area in the most Republican county in Texas," Burch said.
UPDATE: The estimable Bud Kennedy confirmed that Gov. Oscar Colquitt stumped in Mansfield back in 1912. It was a 10:30 a.m. campaign stop for his re-election bid, followed by a 3 p.m. stop in Grapevine, according to a Star-Telegram report from the period. "I didn't cover it," Kennedy said.
